Cloud's vest from Advent Children being considered!

Cloud from Final Fantasy 7: Advent ChildrenWe're currently studying this design as an upcoming product. Cloud's knit vest with the front zipper just looks so cool and comfortable that we can't resist. We're not planning on making the accessories and strapping, just the vest itself. We're at the stage of figuring out all the design details, exactly how it's constructed, etc. We have a few good pictures, but more would certainly be helpful. For example, we've yet to see this from the back. How about it? Does anyone have some great pics to share? What's your opinion on this item? Would you like to see this design become an AbbyShot garment? Chime in with your opinion, we want to hear from you!

I've always loved Cloud's vest, and that's the one piece of clothing that seems at least inspired by the game in Advent Children. I've got the DVD at home, and if the PC is working I can try to work on some screencaps for it, but no guarantees.

Hope that helps for now. Hurrah google.

hey! that is one hell of a good idea though in my opinion the straps and lionhead on the shoulder would be a terrific add-on to the garment.

the fabric should be a blend of wool with some stretch material. in any case, i would buy it for sure!

Can anyone explain me, does the left (long) shoulder is a part of the vest?
If not, I'd buy it. Or at least, it could be detachable. Cloud's vest is great, but I can't see myself wearing it as it is on a daily basis ;-)

You have to make that vest. High necks on any garment looks SO smart! Like the guy said, a mix of wool and say, lycra. Im no expert on that front so Ill leave that up to you, lol. Love the site. Cant wait to see whats in store for the future. Goodbye from sunny England

It is a neat vest. I got one from a cosplay seller that's quite nice. Wear it pretty often. Without the sleeve, shoulder armor and straps, that is. I endorse this!

I cannibalised one out of a woolen cardigan which had the brand of "Easy" clothing, not very good to find on the internet, and a leg from a pair of dark grey woolen jeans with the brand of "Aztec Jeans". The hardest part was making the arm which I cut off being a neat edge. I wore it out once, but felt silly walking around with a bare unmuscled arm.

I assumed that the arm was a remnant of an armoured cloak held on somehow, but it was easier to make the arm attach directly to the vest.

An excellent source for advent children reference pictures is:

And yes, that is a sephiroth coat on there.. :D

I'll send the one I have for patterns if it gets me a discount on a vash coat! ;)

Yeah I would defintely buy this, quick question though, how form-fitting is this top? It looks pretty tight around the waist but sometimes (in the film) the area around the sleeves looks pretty loose, blowing in the wind you know? Anyway as someone said already, high necks rock!

Cosplay'd be a fine occasion for this piece. But I think anywhere else, it'd be a bit odd. I'd think the person wearing it would have to have a pretty built physique to pull it off. And even then, it might be questionable. But I dunno, maybe it's just cuz I would look horrible in it, so I'm biased.

Here are some good shots of the action figure, including the back:

http://pony-hp2.web.infoseek.co.jp/FENRIR.htm

It does not show the bottom of the vest, though I suppose it's cut off straight. Just as an aside, maybe it'd be nice to have a two-way zipper, so you could unzip it slightly (in an inverted V-shape) from the bottom--it's a cool look on a form-fitting vest.

Would you by any chance be interested in doing a version of his trousers as well? I can't find any good pictures of them at the moment, but the design is pretty unique. The action figure isn't the best reference for them though, I think.

The double zipper is a -must- for this design, I think - whether the original design has one, or not. I wear a lot of zip-up high-necked sweaters designed like this - though mine have sleeves - and the ones that come with a double zipper are the best of the bunch. I've always found myself avoiding the ones that lack this feature, even if they're otherwise wonderful pieces.

From the pics it seems that he is wearing:
a sleeveless high-collar vest (probably has a standard straight bottom hem and worn over the pants),
one strap is for his right shoulder sleeve/armor (this goes below his left arm, around his chest),
the double set of straps are for his right side "leg cape" poor description, but it's not a skirt/cloak (one strap goes over his left shoulder and the other over his left hip),
and a pair of pants. None of the three straps attach to the other, giving him more range of motion. The right-hand sleeve is only attached with the strap and not directly to the vest.

Overall it gives the amazing effect that he's wearing only the right hand side of a long, leather coat. Gorgeous design ideas.

A double-zipper would be perfect for this vest giving it a sharper, sexier look especially if it's cut lower on the torso and doesn't end at waist/belly button level, but over the hips a bit. A streatchy wool blend would look good or maybe a bulky cotton blend.

Our research so far tells us that the left "trench-style" sleeve is merely strapped on and isn't actually a part of the zippered vest itself. Wearing it with the straps and left sleeve, etc. would definitely mark it as a "Cloud cosplay costume", but wearing the vest alone should look distinctive yet not "costume like".

We're not certain just yet what the fabric content would be, perhaps a wool blend, perhaps not. It will definitely need to have some degree of stretchiness to it though to match the way it is worn by Cloud. We currently have no plans to produce Cloud's trousers.

We haven't determined what type of zipper to use, but we will keep everyone's comments in mind. Thanks everyone for the links supplied so far!

Purely an opinion and no technical help from me, but I love this idea and would definitely buy it. Same goes for the accessories.

It's a fantastic idea. If it will be available I'm gonna buy it definitely.

Holy crap. That would be the best thing on earth. Busting that out on the first day of school would be better than the coolest thing ever! I love it and I am glad I found this wesite. You guys rock. Keep it all up!!!! :)

The vest'd be good but tons of other sites have already done it. I'd love to see you guys make the trousers though, they have a grear design but noone has made them yet.

shadow hawk said...

that would be great if you guys ever decide to make this, the vest looks a lot like the t-shirts i wear, in terms of how its made, it has lots of ridged lines that stretch so if you buy a slighty smaller one it just stretches easily and back to shape. supperts the muscles also so they are helpful lol.

Almost a year on, any updates on the possible production of this vest? Finding something even remotley close to it has been a chore so far. Keeping the design to the vest only is a great idea, something that can be worn by it self or part of a costume.

Cloud's vest would be a very smart move to make. You will definatly make a killing..heh..I'd buy it...and wear it on a weekly basis..it fits well with what I allready wear normally..

Vest only..the rest isn't actually part of the vest but accessory to it..say the sleeve and shoulder pad..

does anyone know where i can get a cloud strife vest

if ya do can you tell me

Koobatashin said...

DO IT!
I'm looking for that vest, what it's called, where to get it, etc... so far only cosplay people make them.
..
I guess an easy unprofessional way to say how to make would be to add a zipper and high neck to a thick black wife beater, make it durable and there ya go.

Making this would be a very good investment, the quantity of comments made on this page does not do justice to the demand, I believe it would very quickly become a best seller. In my opinion it should be made of cotton, I have numerous similar garments, with some sturdy stitching it will keep the garment in shape, the collar might be a pain though. I'll buy five ;-)

I would absolutely love to see this item made. It is so simple yet strong.
I have looked for something similar, but cannot find anything as great anywhere. I feel you would be able to do justice to it!
