Firefly Fans: Jayne Needs Your Opinion!

Howdy folks!

We’re looking for some opinions about a design we’re working on and there doesn’t seem to be a Town Hall handy for a proper meetin’. This’ll have to do:

Are you a Browncoat looking for the perfect gift for that special someone?
Someone who saved you from the Reavers?
Sprung you out of an Alliance lock-up?
Shot a man because he looked at you funny?

We may have just the thing.

AbbyShot Presents the Firefly Inspired Jayne Hoodie! Better than Ma's Hat.Everyone worth knowin’ has got a Jayne Hat – now AbbyShot is taking Firefly fandom (or as we like to call it: good taste) to a whole new level:

Presenting the Jayne Hoodie!

Inspired by everyone’s favorite PR man, mercenary, Hero of Canton, and all-around fun guy – Jayne Cobb! – this is a red hoodie you can wear around town and mix in just fine with the locals. But when the mood strikes you, just pop the hood up and you’re showing your true Browncoat colors!

As a special bonus, we plucked a designer from the ranks of illustriousAbbyShot Presents the Firefly Inspired Jayne Hoodie! Hero of Canton approved. Browncoats (goes by the name of Artcat!) to make us a graphic of Jayne’s dragon tattoo that we’ll be adding to each and every Jayne Hoodie.

The Jayne Hoodie will be up for grabs in a range of unisex sizes (S to XL, tentatively). Click any picture for a larger sized version!

Now we’ve got a few questions to throw out to you:

1. What do you think of this hoodie? Would you change anything about it?

2. Would you buy it for a retail price of $69.00?

3. Would you want the pom-pom on top for the true “Jayne Hat” look?

4. Would you be interested in having a “special group rate” for your Browncoat fan club? (If so, send us your details!)
AbbyShot Presents the Firefly Inspired Jayne Hoodie! Good PR.
Now, this product isn’t a 100% done deal yet. We’re looking for reactions to gauge exactly if and how we’re going to release this design. Please get back to us by e-mail (“info@abbyshot.com”) or by commenting here on our blog!

We’re opening the floor for discussion until June 30th. If we get a goodAbbyShot Presents the Firefly Inspired Jayne Hoodie! Shiny! reaction then there’s a good chance that the Jayne Hoodie will see the light of day!

So give us a holler any way you please before June 30th. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Stay Shiny,
The AbbyShot Team

$70? About 35 quid. Seems reasonable.

I'd SO buy one of these!

price sounds about right, gotta have the pom, only thing I'd change would be to add larger sizes, and I think a few folks in our local browncoat group would be interested...

I think the pompom is essential! I would also like to say what a joy and challenge recreating Jayne's tattoo was!

I love it, but would definitely go for an XXL if available - also I kinda miss the dangly earpieces, is there any chance of incorporating some dangliness into the design?
Added Jayne graphics would also be excellent - I like the Fighting Elves myself.

70 seems reasonable and definitely has to have the pompom. though i'm not a fan of red would there be a possibility of an option on the main color?

Murph said...

I could go for $70
But only if it had the pom-pom

Are we talking about licensed merchandise here? Has this been cleared through Fox's legal/licensing department? I'd hate to see it produced just to be shut down.

Also, the photos make it look like the orange bit is just a "lobot" stripe that goes half way around, instead of being a full layer like the Jayne hat. That's kind of odd looking.

I think the pom-pom is essential. And beside, if can always be cut off by ne'er-do-wells who don't like it. I think that $64.99 sounds a tad more reasonable (especially when we know we'll have to add in shipping which will bring it to the $70 mark anway...it's a bit "owie" but understandable if these can't be mass produced). I also think you'll need to consider the XXL size. Not everyone here's a toothpick :-)

Yes, please!!!

More bigger sizes, though. Bigger fans like cute stuff too!

I would like to actually see it ON someone so we can get an idea of how the stripes lay once it's on your head. Pompom is essential. I would also like to see the dangling earflaps.

I'll take one in 2XL, please!

Love the hoodie and the pom-pom is a must! Would pay no more than $35 US for the sweatshirt though.

I love it and would probably buy one when I am flush enough! I think the pom pom is essential too!

Larger sizes would be a good idea as there are a lot of us larger folk who'd love the look, I would understand if it cost a little more for additional fabric, too.

Artcat is one talented lady! I saw the tattoo and a blurb about looking this site up at our CSTS screening in Boston on Sat night!

Yes - definitely gets the thumbs up from me!

Krissy said...

I like it, but it's missing the earflaps. Is there any way earflaps can be incorporated?

I think $60 is a fair price.

I would love to have one. I wouldn't be able to buy one as you only list sizes too small for me. I need a 3x myself. But I would buy one if I were smaller.

It looks great--what a fun design! I never pay more than $45 (that's absolute tops--I rarely pay that much) for a hoodie, though, so it's well out of my price range.

I would love one. The pom-pom is a must, and I think you should definitely need to add in larger sizes. As for the price, $70.00 is a bit much, especially when you add in shipping.
I would like to see a mock up with some ear flaps - although I think strings would easily get damaged in washing.

I would so want to wear this hoodie, especially with the puff on top, but I wouldn't want to pay that much for it. The problem is, I know that it should cost that much, because hooded sweatshirts without any designs on them tend to cost a lot of money. Which is one reason I don't own any (except for one I found a thrift store for $5, but it's low-quality).

KCarlin said...

$50-$60 is more reasonable for most of us considering this is without shipping, pom-pom is a must, and bigger sizes (2X-3X). I would love one of these and would even buy one for a gift.

SciFiGirl said...

LOVE the idea, and yes, the pom pom must stay. But that price is way too high. I'd say absolutely no more than $50, TOPS, especially with shipping to be added. I know J!NX retails their hoodies for $35 or under, so I'd use that as a base point. But the additional detailing on the Jayne hoodie would of course add a bit to the price.

It's over-priced. The sizes are too limited (and therefore exclusionary). The "Jayne hat" part looks very little like a Jayne hat as it's currently designed. Overall it's entirely too plain and too red.

Anonymous said...

Definite Pom Pom. Its a spoof on Jayne so I don't expect it to be exactly like a Jayne hat so I think its shiny! Try and keep our price down to 60.00 and that would be better...and make sure those plus sizes get in there for those of us who need it. LOVE the tattoo! When can we buy one? I want it now!!

AbbyShot said...

We appreciate the all the comments! We agree that 2XL is a must and will be added to the size range. Glad to see that everyone likes the pom-pom and the tattoo features.

We're not sure about colour options. We'll be offering it in these colours to start with, and let future demand determine if more colours are needed. As one poster points out, it is a spoof on Jayne's hat, so it wouldn't really be a Jayne hoodie if it were brown or black or some such. :-)

We also appreciate the honest feedback on the price and will be reviewing this aspect as well.

Things like earflaps and such may look rather odd on a hoodie, especially with the rest of it continuing past the earflaps.

I think folk are referring to the red jacket color not the semi sacred hat colors, so other jacket colors is the question. I love the concept and I know how Artcat works so the design should be only made better by her additions. Wishing the price was able to be bit less knowing that shipping is climbing daily now.

It's SO bloody beautiful! Adding the xxl size is a must-to, though. Seriously.

I'd totally buy one.

Ciaran Llachlan said...

I'd make the coat part BROWN, but maybe that's just me.

otherwise, I'm all over having one.

Too bright a red, really not a Jayne color. I might buy it for half the price.

I agree with most of what was mentioned before (and most of which has already been recognized by AbbyShot):
-Adding 2X size, at least.
-Must have the pom-pom!
-Small decrease in price (someone mentioned $60... sounds more reasonable).
-Artcat's recreation of Jayne's tattoo is awesome!
-Option to change base color of hoodie to something other than the blinding red, or possibly just finding a different red.

I know I'm late to add my two cents, but I love it. It's a good price.
I really hope they become available.
and the tattoo is a great idea.
