The AbbyShot Fashion Institute: Summer-ized!

Here at AbbyShot Headquarters in Newfoundland, Canada, summer has finally arrived. Hey, better late than never! With the sun shining and the temperatures rising, people are getting out of their heavy coats and into lighter summer wear.

AbbyShot customer wearing her Ghost in the Shell inspired GIG ShrugWith so many conventions going on this time of year, our long coats are still very popular, but did you realize that AbbyShot has lots of great summer wear? Sure, when is it a better time to slip into those fingerless gloves? And if you find that just some of your fingers get warm, try our Dante Shooting Gloves. ;)

The GIG Shrug is another item that is perfect for summer. Made out of a super soft lamb skin, it not only looks great, but feels great. You can incorporate it as part of your anime inspired outfit, or layer it over a dress. Either way, the G-I-G Shrug always gets heads turning.

The Kingdom Hoodie is an all time favorite of ours, and is great when layering for winter or wearing as a summer jacket. The staff here get a lot of use out of their hoodies on cool summer nights. We also love to sport our Abby-Shirts around town.

What have you done to summer-ize your AbbyShot garment?

The Wednesday Uplink: The Case of the Extra Stripe

I had hoped that I would be the one to show you the AbbyShot version of the Eleventh Doctor's Jacket and Bow Tie, but once again I see I was foiled by the staff at AbbyShot HQ when they posted it on both Twitter and Facebook.

So, here is the detail of AbbyShot's Captain Jack Harkness Coat...the now infamous epaulet. I guess you heard about the Comic-Con Torchwood panel and how Danny, an AbbyShot employee engaged John Barrowman in a discourse about the coat. So, now I need to solve the puzzle of the fourth stripe on the epaulet.

If you have any thoughts on these stripes, please post them here as per usual on the Blog, on Twitter or on the AbbyShot Facebook Page.

Eon

Spaghetti, Westerns, Space...

Okay, so maybe spaghetti doesn't fit just yet, but give it time. From Firefly and Trigun to Cowboys and Aliens, our newest frontier is becoming more and more crowded. Now we have Starhawk from Lightbox Interactive ready to be Beta tested by the public, especially Warhawk fans. Add to the mix Bethesda Softwork's Fallout: New Vegas and you get quite the range of western sci-fi themes to choose from.

We have learned a lot from the space technology of the past 40 years and while the shuttle has landed for the last time, there is still much information available to not only scientists, but to writers and producers and gamers alike. Imagine the exploration that can now be coded into a game for example, beginning with what science has taught us and soaring to ever higher imaginative heights. The limitless possibilities are awe-inspiring!

So what do you see on the horizon for the somewhat newly combined western/sci-fi genre, whether in movies or television shows or video games? Do you think this is a new genre which will take hold for some time to come yet? Is there more to explore in this vast new frontier called Space? What really links the two genres together do you think? And what sort of fashion might that inspire? We would love to hear your responses on any of these topics.

AbbyShot Fashion Institute: The Power Of Black

A proud AbbyShot customer wearing his Final Fantasy inspired Jenova TrenchBlack is the colour of intrigue, and sophistication. It is also the most predominantly used 'colour' in fashion. Black is simplistic, basic and sleek. Where would the world be without the "little black dress"?

Black is the colour used to show seniority and achievement in many forms of martial arts. It is the traditional colour that judges and lawyers wear. A "black tie" function just wouldn't be the same in blue.

In other cultures, such as the Japanese culture, black is a symbol of age, honor and nobility. In western societies, it symbolizes mourning and bereavement. Goth and Punk would not be much without the colour black; which is also true for AbbyShot.
Actor Yul Brynner in The Magnificent Seven
Russian actor Yul Brynner (The King and I) wore black for the last 45 years of his life. It must have been a bland 45 years

Okay, so since last week I have been sleuthing about and have found out that AbbyShot's new Export Developer has been sent to Comic-Con International in order to unveil the much anticipated new Doctor Who products: The Eleventh Doctor's Jacket and Bow Tie as well as the new Captain Jack Harkness Coat.

It is reported that Danny will be taking part in several Doctor Who and Torchwood events as well as touring the Exhibitor Booths so keep an eye out for him. Watch in particular for his Tweets for there are numerous chances to win an official Doctor Who Bow Tie. In these pictures you can see Danny as a green-horn, as he was when he left home...and then again while he was entering Comic-Con International in San Diego! Geronimo!

Mainstream Reaction

We have the coolest coats! How can we not when we have such awesome inspiration, further driven by customers such as yourselves and exhibited at such fantastic events as Comic-Con International? However, what about those of you who would like to wear these coats as you would any other? Are they too far out there? Do people stop you and ask you where you got your stunning coat? Some of our followers have been wondering if purchasing a Jenova or an Enigma might lead to some interesting remarks.
So, we are asking those of you who have already purchased items from us to please let us know how they are received in the more mainstream places you frequent.  Please feel free to post your comments here, on our Facebook page or on our Twitter feed. At AbbyShot we have learned from customers such as yourselves to always expect the unexpected.  It's part of what makes our jobs so very cool!

AbbyShot Fashion Institute: All We Need Is Glove

Here at AbbyShot, we are known for our coats and jackets. What some people don't realize is that we also have gloves. We sell almost as many types of gloves as we do coats.

We offer full leather gloves, fingerless gloves, and shooting gloves. What type is your favorite? Prince Philip of Calabria loved gloves so much that he often wore 16 pairs at a time. Now I know it does get cold sometimes, but doubling up usually does the trick.

When buying gloves online it can be hard to determine which size to get, not being able to try them on and all. On each of our glove product pages there is a size chart to guide you. Just in case you have trouble knowing how to measure properly, we made a little video to illustrate it for you.

What kinds of gloves would you like to see us come out with next? Please feel free to send us your suggestions in the comments section below!

The holiday is off, at least for now, and I am back and ready to give you the scoop before those at AbbyShot HQ can even turn around. Yes indeed. I have kept my nose to the ground and have managed to sleuth out why it is that AbbyShot is leaving all of these obtuse clues about for you. Well, it will be exciting for some, and for those who cannot be there in person, there are still some side benefits!

AbbyShot is going to unveil the final version of the Captain Jack Harkness Coat at Comic-Con International next week! You heard it here first! You can look for Danny, their Export Developer dressed just like the guy pictured here, to see what it looks like in person. Try it on, have your picture taken, etc.. For those of you not going to San Diego, watch for TwitPics, YouTube videos and images on Facebook to see what it's like.

I know there is more in the works, but I haven't yet been able to get the final details. As soon as I am sure, I will let you know. Watch the Blog closely.
Let me know what you think of this news on the Blog, on Twitter or on the AbbyShot Facebook Page.

War of the Worlds

There are all sorts of wars going on in this world. Some take place in outer space with a western theme, some take place within the worlds of anime, and still others take place outside the safety of your TARDIS. In our modern day world we have the battles of media giants.

With the introduction of Google +, people are wondering if this one giant can overtake and surpass the curent leader of social media, Facebook. Did they come into the game too late? Will they offer something not currently available on Facebook? What will their niche be? Where am I going with this? Today it was announced that through Facebook and your Facebook credits, you will be able to purchase a streamed version of nine past episodes of Doctor Who from the BBC. Now that is kinda cool! What else are you going to do with all of your Facebook credits anyway?

The AbbyShot Fashion Institute: A Few Fun Facts

Fashion has changed so much over the years. Most of us probably don't stop and ask "why" some trends have come about. Sometimes people just follow the styles that they see others wearing. Around the end of the 1400's, Charles VIII of France started wearing shoes with square toes to hide the fact that he had six toes on one foot. And, of course the rest of the population followed.

Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor Who and TorchwoodWhat do Silent Bob's Coat, the Deckard Trench, the Eleventh Doctor's Jacket, and Captain Jack Harkness' Coat all have in common? They all have buttons on the bottoms of the sleeves! Do you know why some coats and jackets were designed with this added detail? Apparently, Napoleon Bonaparte decided that by putting buttons there, soldiers would stop their disgusting habit of wiping their runny noses in their sleeves. That must have made for a messy situation, seeing Kleenex wasn't invented at the time.

Did you happen to see what else all those coats have in common? Keep an eye on our blog and in our free monthly newsletter to keep up with the latest AbbyShot news!

The Wednesday Uplink: Scooped!

>WELCOME

Well, I think I may have to consider a holiday. I can't believe that I got stumped so easily! There were absolutely no clues that the bow tie was coming down the tube. I half expected it in April and then May when they announced the Eleventh Doctor's Jacket was coming, but I didn't see it coming in the June Newsletter. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great! I only wish I had predicted it first.

I understand that there is to be a big unveiling at an undisclosed location this month. While I don't know where it might be yet, I will undertake to find out soon and will report back to you.

If you have any clues yourself, please be sure to share your thoughts by jumping on the waiting list, or by sending me your thoughts here on the Blog, on Twitter or on the AbbyShot Facebook Page.

Eon

Captain Jack Harkness on Doctor Who: Great Moments

Though he hasn't met the Eleventh Doctor (yet!), Captain Jack Harkness remains one of the most memorable characters to ever grace our TV screens in Doctor Who. Ever since he first met the Ninth Doctor during World War II, this immortal Time Agent quickly became a fan favourite with his own successful spin-off show, Torchwood.

Following our Captain Jack Harkness Coat product announcement in the June Newsletter, of course the AbbyShot Team has Captain Jack on the brain too! The following video is a great way to celebrate his appearances on Doctor Who. Enjoy!
