I outed myself last week and so won't be able to use the closet anymore for hiding out. Not my finest moment, but it was too stuffy in there anyway and AbbyShot's AbbyBot's spare parts were more than a little disconcerting. I kept trying to put them together in my mind's eye, to see if I could create a second AbbyBot whose main purpose in life would be to lure that old tincan pest away from the production area, thereby leaving me free to gather clues in peace.

However, until that can be done, I have to watch my step. Next week I begin my holidays. I am not sure how long I will be gone, but I will keep you up to date on anything new I find out. I have some "equipment" to set up before I go. My travels will also take me to various locations around the globe, so stay tuned! My goal? I will gather intel which will lead to new products...and I could use your help! If you are interested, please email me at Eon3Neo@gmail.com.

In the meantime please tell your friends to BUY NOW!! We will definitely need the real estate at AbbyShot for new products. Are you with me?

Eon

Sydney Newman: An Innovative Man

Who was Sydney Cecil Newman and why was he such an influential man in the 1960's? Well, many of you know him as the Head of Drama with the BBC in the 1960s. It was due to his imagination that shows such as The Avengers, and Doctor Who ever came to be. He was entrusted to create a show to fill an early evening slot which would appeal to all ages. An earlier report by the BBC suggested a science fiction story involving time travel might be popular. As an avid science fiction fan himself, from that Newman came up with the character of the Doctor and a time travel machine which was larger on the inside than the outside. He has become known as the creator of Doctor Who

Newman was also quite influential in that he allowed a young woman (Verity Lambert) to take control of the production of the series, an act virtually unheard of in the early 1960s.  He asked Lambert to "make sure the show had an educational thrust so that the scientifc side of it was based on some sort of reality." Newman also restructured the way the entire department worked and instead of having producers also edit and direct their own plays, he allowed producers & editors/script writers to create the story and then hired a director once the scripts were commissioned.

Sydney Newman was a Canadian, residing in Toronto for most of his life. In 1981 he received the Order of Canada, the country's highest civilian honour. Despite his many lifetime achievements, he will always be closest to our hearts as one of the creators of Doctor Who.

The Eleventh Doctor Meets Rose Tyler?

Back before Billie Piper was Rose Tyler and Matt Smith was the Eleventh Doctor, they worked together on a film called "Ruby in the Smoke".
Billie Piper and Matt Smith from Doctor Who star in Ruby in the Smoke
Billie Piper plays Sally, a woman who discovers that someone is trying to kill her. Matt Smith plays a young man who offers her his help.

Check out the chemistry between the two of them in this clip! I wonder is Billie enjoyed working with Matt Smith or David Tennant more? With whom would you prefer to work?

Perhaps you are thinking that I am planning on joining Captain Jack Harkness on his adventures, but no, I literally just got out of the closet where I stowed away early this morning in order to listen in on AbbyShot's Product Development meeting.

I was hoping I could play you the audio file, but it is not easily uploaded here and my time is limited. However, here is a synopsis of what I managed to glean through the thickness of coats and the doorway.

BUY NOW!!

It seems as if AbbyShot is going to discontinue a number of their older styles in order to make room for a large number of newer designs in 2012. There is still some debate about what will be coming down the tubes as of yet. Although a few items seemingly stand out, they are in the research stages at the moment. I can tell you that the items pictured here are going to be gone by New Year's Eve...or sooner, and it looks like they will NOT be making another appearance, like the magnificent Lobby Trench did.

So, if you have been thinking about purchasing a Silent Bob's Coat, a Deckard Trench, a Foxhound Coat, a Stampede Duster (even the handsome leather one), a Pill Jacket or a Vereen Custom Jacket (they previously discontinued the set sizes), you had best buy one now. Don't forget they also have the Abby-Layaway plan available once you sign in, and that is good for 90 days worth of saving up for your favourite coat!!

If you have any suggestions on the new products you would like to see, slip me a note and I'll plant it on their desk.  You can get hold of me in the usual way...on the Blog, on Twitter or on the AbbyShot Facebook Page

Eon

Batman Who?

The Dark Knight RisingThere is a lot of buzz surrounding the new Batman Movie: The Dark Knight Rises. It features an all-star cast, including Anne Hathaway and Robyn Williams. From the look of the trailer, it is going to be a huge hit when it is released in 2012.
Doctor Who's Matt Smith playing Batman in Gotham Autopsy
Another exciting Batman adventure took place recently in LA when Matt Smith portrayed the cape crusader in the comedy/play Gotham Autopsy. Apparently he had the audience in knots!

It does look pretty hilarious, but our favorite role for Matt Smith is, of course, the Eleventh Doctor. :)

The Wednesday Uplink: Your Timing Is Crucial

Today was a day of chaos around AbbyShot as the Design Team sifted through hundreds of suggestions for new garments. It looks like they will be doing so for another week or so before they start to narrow down their choices.

I wasn't able to take a great shot of anything, but I did manage to hear them talking about classic hero designs from the various genres, so I picked a few pictures of some of their suggestions. They discussed some possible choices for new Doctor Who clothing. Most of the discussion seemed to be centered around what was up and coming within the next year (in games, movies, anime, etc..) which would feature cool coats and would be a surefire hit with retailers around the globe!

This is an excellent time for me to give them a few ideas of my own. It might be wise for you to do the same.

If you have any ideas you'd like ME to give them, please let me know here as per usual on the Blog, on Twitter or on the AbbyShot Facebook Page

Bow Ties Are Back!

Frank Sinatra wearing a bow tieBow ties have been around since the 17th century. Croatian mercenaries wore them around their necks during the Prussian war to hold the necks of their shirts together. The upper classes in France then adapted the fashion as their own. It evolved from there.

Some prominent figures throughout history who have sported the bow tie are: President Franklin Roosevelt, Sir Winston Churchill, Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, and Fred Astaire. Each of these men gave it their own distinctive look and did it proud. When other characters such a Pee-Wee Herman, and Crusty the Clown starting wearing the bow tie, it took a turn for the worse. Bow ties started to become associated with nerds, geeks, and slapstick comedy.

Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith wearing a bow tieI think the bow tie industry owes the BBC a little thank you for bringing back its popularity with the newest Doctor Who, played by Matt Smith. When he arrived wearing a bow tie, the demand of them went up 11%! He is the third Doctor to wear a bow tie. Patrick Troughton (the Second Doctor), and Jon Pertwee (the Third Doctor) also wore them!

Which Doctor do you think wore it best?

The Power of One!

Today I read about a woman who was searching for a Doctor Who Dalek Pencil Topper for 30 years! Now, as pencil topper goes, it's kinda cool, but it is the 30 years of sheer determination of one day finding a Doctor Who Dalek Pencil Topper that drew me into the story, and it was the purpose behind her posting that kept me enthralled.

We know what it is like to receive letters like the one she wrote, for we get them all the time at the office, and none of us ever gets tired of them....not ever. As a staff we share them (and the multitudes of pictures and even videos we receive) with each other over break in the morning.

And so to all of you, past, present and future, who take time out of your busy lives to send us a word of thanks, we would like to say a collective "Thank you!" in return. It is because of your enthusiasm for all parts of our business (from product development to product delivery) that we all love our jobs. Without you there would be no AbbyShot. Don't ever underestimate the effect one person can have because we experience your power every day!

Thank you!

I would like to thank those of you who have been helping me to solve the "additional stripe" question regarding the Captain Jack Harkness Coat. I have been given a few good theories so far and I am working on verification. Please keep the theories coming, though.

AbbyShot is swimming in a sea of colour. There are all shades of green, yellow, red and black strewn about. I can't tell if they
are related or not as the door is heavily guarded and that dang AbbyBot is moving me along every time I slow down even long enough to peer through the door's tiny window. Those are some pretty strong colours. What might they be working on, can you tell?

If you have any ideas, regarding the additional stripe (which suddenly appears when Captain Jack meets the Tenth Doctor), or what these colour chips might mean, please let me know here as per usual on the Blog, on Twitter or on the AbbyShot Facebook Page. Your help cracking riddles is always much appreciated!

Eon

AbbyShot Stands Apart From The Rest

People sometimes ask us why it is we do what we do. We tell them it's because of our customers. People write to us all the time requesting various garments. Some people include pictures and point out certain details, others write us poetry and wish lists. It's all very exciting for our Product Development Team! When we get a lot of call for a particular garment, we begin the design process. Our team looks at all of the information we have been given by our fans, sending out questions and need for clarification, etc. where necessary. We also complete further research into the garment.

When everything has been assembled, we decide which features we will incorporate into the design. Sometimes our coat is based on a game, but in reality fabric doesn't move like it does in the game.  Sometimes the detailing is obscured somewhat in the photos so we make our best educated judgements on how to move forward. Upon occasion we must decide if the design details will impede its use as a real coat, rather than a costume, for example full sleeves vs. three quarter sleeves. When we are working on products which are really new, we often find that pictures are released after we have gone into production that shed light on some aspect we were struggling with. Through it all, we always keep the customer in mind!

We keep the coat as close as possible to the original design, including as many details as we possibly can and we keep the garment's price point where it is affordable. Our goal is to make a replica garment that can be worn not just at cosplay events, but throughout the year. Our products are functioning garments, using breathable, high quality fabrics. Our notions (buttons, belts, etc.) stand the test of time and our stitching will not unravel.  Every coat is fully inspected before it leaves our premises to ensure that each customer is more than happy with their purchase.

Best of all, every day we get multiple emails, shoutouts in our social media, and often phone calls and video clips from customers who are totally thrilled with their products! It's how we know that what we are doing works! If it works for you, it more than works for us and so we move onto our next inspiration...

Nerd Alert!

What is your idea of a "nerd"? Do you consider yourself to be one? And do you consider yourself to be a cool one? If you are confused about this, perhaps this little post on Memerial Net can help!

Are you awkward and nerdy like Matt Smith?
Now you can go even one step further!

(Disclaimer: Although AbbyShot does recognize the humour in this picture, we also want to say that we think all of our customers are awesome...even if you wear a video game controller on your chest ;)

Today was quiet day at AbbyShot Headquarters due to the St. John's Regatta taking place...the oldest regatta in North America. Unfortunately everything is locked up tighter than Fort Knox and that dang AbbyBot is roaming double time.

I am due to go on holidays shortly and I don't yet know where to go. I feel restless and I want to go somewhere and get into some heavy duty sleuthing. I am turning to you for help. Wouldn't it be great if we could work together and propose the next AbbyShot product? We would have to have a lot of work done...photos to support the design and we would have to show how popular a product it would be. We could tell them which details to focus on, etc.. If you have any ideas as to where to begin my sleuthing, please let me know here as per usual on the Blog, on Twitter or on the AbbyShot Facebook Page. Who knows, maybe we can go on a journey together?

Eon

Take A Chill Pill!

While browsing through TOR.COM, we came across a very interesting list of Ten Anime Films You Should See Before You Die. Among this list, we found a couple of films that touched close to home (well, AbbyShot Headquarters).

Akira inspired, Pill JacketThe 1988 film Akira is a classic piece of Japanese anime. It's popularity has not diminished over the years. That probably explains why our very own Pill Jacket has so many people interested in it, all these years later.

The second film on this list that has caught our eye is Ghost in the Shell. We particularly like the main character of Motoko Kusanagi. She has many different looks, but her leather shrug is our favorite! ;) Check out our version of her leather shrug, the GIG Shrug.

Do you see other items in these films you wish you could wear?
